The program uses the principles of “free-range learning,” educating consumers about the life of chickens, egg production, and where their food comes from. The program gives community members an easy way to become connected with the world of agriculture, and highlights the importance of biodiversity and genetic preservation of our food resources.


Some Interesting Points:

• In 2014, the Heritage Chicken Program won the El Designo Inc. Award for best label design. 

• In 2014- The egg candling and grading machine was upgraded to the Model 5-CG Egg Grader which allows us to grade between 1800 – 2520 eggs per hour. 

• In 2015, the Heritage Chicken Program won the Community Connections Awards.

    Get on the list

    If there are no more hens available we will automatically put your name on the waiting list. We have one online payment option: one payment of $150 + gst. You will receive eggs for 10 months.

    If Registered, pick up your eggs

    If you have are a heritage hen "adopter" please come pick up your eggs at the ACPPTC (118 st and 60 Ave), South Campus, UofA. Each program will start at the beginning of January, 2017. You will get a dozen of beautiful eggs every two weeks til early October, 2017.
